Suggestions??

Hi y'all. I know it's just too hard to comment on here, but I'm asking you to make an effort and help me out with something. I NEED some reading suggestions! Preferably fiction, a good thick story. The older the better. I just finished listening to the audio book of The Witch of Blackbird Pond, so if it's not historical fiction I won't cry. I love old and difficult vocab, satire, mystery, a little romance, etc. Any suggestions?

  1. I suppose you've read all of the Austen and Bronte books? I'm hoping to come across some good ones as well. I enjoyed The Black Arrow.

    1. I've read all the Austen books. I'd be interested in Bronte stuff besides "Jane Eyre" and "Wuthering Heights." I'm going to look for "The Black Arrow" at the library tonight!

    2. I enjoyed The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte. Agnes Grey by Anne Bronte was also pretty good. Did you read Mansfield Park by Austen? I hadn't heard of that one. It seemed to drag a little throughout most of the book, then she seemed very rushed at the end, like she was tired of the story and didn't feel like spending as much time closing it out. I felt disappointed that we didn't get a good, full happy ending, just a "and they lived happily ever after." :/ I'm reading some more and will let you know if anything seems particularly good. :)

    3. Have you read Hawthorne's "House of the Seven Gables"? Oooo, creepy!

    4. I'll have to check those out. Yes, I've read "Mansfield Park." Absolutely adore Fanny; she's one of my all-time favorite book characters, but yes, I agree about the ending. She took forever to get to the point, and when she did, it was like, BAM! Married, the end. Way unromantic. :(
