If you haven't already, PLEASE take the time to watch this documentary! It will really open your eyes to the appalling lack of freedom and vast amount of deceit going on within the food industry, and the crackdown on local farming. For someone like me who wants to grow my own garden and chickens, and at least TRY to take some steps in the right direction eating-wise, this is so relevant. But really, in the end, it affects all of us, because everything we put in our mouths comes from somewhere. The question is, where? And what's been done to it that they don't tell you about? Hmmm. Thought-provoking.

just finished reading

Just this morning I finished reading Katherine Paterson's Jacob Have I Loved. Oh my word! What a painfully raw book! I was wondering, have any of you read it, and if you have, what are your thoughts on it?

Student Recital Pics!

This past Friday my three students from church - Sarah, Faith, and Kristin - played in a student recital along with some of my friend's students. They did a great job, and we got some pics afterwards! I don't know HOW we all got the pink and black memo....

conveniently ignored

Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

my new fave

Announcing my new favorite chip snack:

Green Giant Roasted Veggie Tortilla Chips ~ Zesty Cheddar

When I tried them through BzzAgent.com, I wasn't sure I'd like them all that much. Because I'll admit it. Doritos are my first love. :P I still tried them, however, and was surprised that I actually liked them better than Doritos because they didn't feel so heavy or thick. The chips were crispy and light without sacrificing flavor. They're slightly healthier too, so it was a yes for me. :)

What's your favorite chip? Is there a kind you absolutely hate? Do you eat generic chips? Just curious. :)

Happy Birthday dear MEEEEEE!

Since you all are just DYING to know what I want for my birthday, I thought I'd tell you. This is a wish list, pretty much, as nothing on here I nor my fam or friends could afford, except the CD. :P

1. An Oral B electric toothbrush. My faithful one of 5 years just gave up the ghost, and I'm REALLY wanting a  new one!

2. A Hoyt bow and arrows. Or something similar.

3. A Le Creuset, this color. I've been seeing more and more recipes that require a Dutch oven, and I haven't one.

4. The 1985 original cast recording of Les Miserables.

who do you believe?

Garage sales!

Yesterday while driving down my road, I noticed a subdivision near my house was doing a bunch of garage sales starting this morning. I called my mom and sis, and out we went! I found just a few things, but I'm excited about all of them!

1) Right off the bat, I found a yeast-free cookbook for my sister-in-law. Looks great and was just $1.

2) I found a pretty frame for my home that I've been keeping my eye out for, since my mom has had one in our home our whole lives. ($5)

3) I found a replica Burberry tote bag, in GREAT shape! I'm a Burberry fan, and these things usually sell for hundreds of dollars, so I was pretty excited! ($10)

I was really thankful to find some nice stuff for only $16! I'm really in the garage sale mood, so hopefully it warms up here and stops raining so we can really go shopping! :P

My Chat with MSG

Rachael Marsceau: Hi! My name is Rachael. I am interested in knowing a little bit more about you. First, could you tell me your name?
Monosodium Glutamate: Sure! My name is Monosodium Glutamate, but you can call me MSG for short.
RM: Okay, MSG. What are you exactly?
MSG: I have been a flavor enhancer for over 100 years.
RM: Where'd you come from?
MSG: My "taste" came from a seaweed called kombu.
RM: I noticed you're in a bunch of my favorite snacks: Cheetos, Fritos, etc. Where else can you be found?
MSG: Soy sauce, many meat flavorings, anything protein fortified or ultra-pasteurized... I used to be in powder baby formula until they discovered I had a detrimental neurological impact on the brains of infants. Bummer!
RM: Something tells me that's not the only thing you have an affect on....
MSG: Well, some people say I'm addictive.
RM: Really? No WONDER I couldn't stop eating that bag of chips!
MSG: Yes, I will always leave you craving more. I'm in a lot of Chinese food, so that's sometimes the reason you can stuff yourself at a Chinese buffet and then feel hungry shortly thereafter.
RM: I heard they did a test involving you and some rats?
MSG: Yes! After they gave me to the rats, I gave THEM Type II diabetes in just 60 weeks! How's that for karma?
RM: Um, what about people? Can you give diabetes to people?
MSG: Thankfully, test results vary and are, at times, unclear. But I'm guessing by the major obesity epidemic going around, I have something to do with it!
RM: Thank you for your time, MSG. I think you've cleared up some doubts in my mind and made me realize that I should be just a LITTLE BIT CREEPED when I see your name on a package of food!
