He put me in a place of pain
That I would seek His face.
He held for me the greatest gain
That I would run the race.
He brought me through the valley low
That I'd my faith renew.
He knew in time He would bestow
His strength so strong and true.
He took from me all outer peace
That I would trust Him more.
He knew His love could never cease --
His grace, th'eternal store.
He gave me struggles that I'd grow.
Praise God for His wise plan!
He knew eternity would show
The depths his mercies span.
